Anacortes Hometown Coin

As seen on King 5 News - click here

Participating Merchants List updated March 1st (see below)

We are proud to present to the people of Anacortes their own Hometown coin. There has been a great reception for this and are happy to be a part of this unique endeavor.

Starting the first week in November, local businesses will be making the coin available to their customers so that they may take advantage of discounted offerings at all participating merchants. Since the coin design is the same, they will be accepted at all businesses that have joined the program.

For example, a customer could buy a latte at a coffee shop and receive an Anacortes coin, then use it at a participating Hardware store to save on their purchase.

Currently there are over 40 businesses on board and excited about offering their services to all locals. Below is the program launch list of Merchants and will be adding more as people join.
We encourage everyone to be a part of this special local program and look for the Anacortes Coin window sign that identifies who is participating.

You can also ask your favorite local business to join in the fun and contact us.

For those businesses outside of Anacortes that would like to start up their own local Hometown Coin Program, be sure to contact us for further information.

Monthly Special

This month we will be offering FREE Priority Shipping on all customized orders. When contacting us, please mention this monthly special.

Calling all Chamber of Commerce (Hometown Coin Program)

Your Hometown Coin Program
(geared towards Chambers and others that could coordinate a community program)
A unique program that strengthens local business cross promotion, helps retain local customers, and providing your town with something they can call their own. As we all know the importance of keeping our locals spending their dollars in our small towns, this is a great tool to help entice “locals to shop locally”.

How does it work?
Every participating Merchant will have Hometown coins to handout to their customers. They can choose and change their offering/discount at anytime. Based on what or how much a customer spends, the Merchant will give out a Hometown coin and allow customers to use at any of the participating businesses. All Merchants will benefit by enticing people to buy something to get a coin and also to use the coin on their next visit. The natural and fun aspects of this program will cause infectious “word of mouth” advertising for all businesses.

For example, a customer could buy a latte at a coffee shop and receive a Hometown coin, then use it at a participating Hardware store to save on their purchase.

Here is a News story on the Hometown coin Program and how it can be used. - http://www.king5.com/news/consumer/Merchants-find-way-to-keep-customers-in-Anacortes-NEW-73091537.html

What do the coins look like?
Here is an example of the Anacortes Hometown coin (front and back):

Scribulz coins are made from real maple wood with a specially designed durable label material that is scratch and water resistant. They come in a 1.5" diameter size with a beveled edge for a nice finishing touch.

What is the cost?
The program is funded by the Merchants. The Chamber will be distributing the kits and collecting the funds. The cost per Merchant is only $70 to the Chamber every 3 months, but in order to supplement any Chamber costs, you may charge the Merchants up to $100.00 for the kit. This gives the Chamber the option to collect a 30% margin per kit sold. This would help to fund the marketing of the program, time spent running the program, and other Chamber initiatives.

A kit includes: 100 Hometown Coins, a window decal that looks like the front of the coin so that the locals know they are participating, and a 5x7 acrylic counter top sign.

We provide FREE shipping for the consolidated orders going to the Chamber every 3 months. If smaller orders are needed due to demand, shipping will be based on weight.

What is the involvement of the Chamber for this program?
We like to work with one Chamber assigned Representative to finalize the Hometown coin design, send information to for the participating Merchants, and help support the program by answering questions, etc..

The Chamber will also be collecting payment from the Merchants every three months and receiving 100 new coins per business to handout.

**You can give an incentive to the first few businesses that sign up at a lower price, if you feel this would get the “ball rolling”**

Is there any advertising or promoting of this program?
We will have your Hometown coin and participating Merchants on our website BLOG with a link to their website. This is just a little extra something we do to help with promoting your program further. We also take advantage of any other media when possible. I.e. Newspaper, Craigslist, Press Releases. ..

The main source of Marketing is from the Chamber and participating businesses. They should advertise their involvement in-line with their current marketing plan. For example, Hometown coin special this month is…20% off all merchandise! or.. Get your Hometown coin with every purchase over $25.00.

When can we get started?
We find that a minimum of 20 initial businesses should participate in order to allow for good exposure and product/service variety. Once the early-adopters have started, the word gets around quickly and additional businesses will come onboard. There is no maximum on how many can participate, the more the better for our locals to take advantage of.

Once design is finalized and payment received, your Hometown coins will take approx. 2 weeks before being shipped.

How do we get more coins when we need them?
As mentioned, every three months we will be supplying another 100 Hometown coins for each kit purchased for the same low cost of $70.00 ea. You may also purchase extra kits in advance to have them available to the new businesses that want to join in between cycles.

    Balance in your Daily Decision-Making

Blue or Red pill...Which would you choose? You may have heard this question being asked from The Matrix movie, but it can also apply to normal life. There have been many times we have been force to choose between two paths or items. Sometimes we have more information than others to help make the decision...sometimes not and we need to make the call quickly. Does having more time to make the choice make a difference? or does it just add more confusion in what to do?

Our choices in life are directly related to our own experiences and knowledge and we sometimes call it intuition. Usually we know what we will do within the first few seconds, but will stew over things and analyze further. Why? Because we doubt ourselves and the possibility of failing to make the right decision.

Where am I going with this? Nowhere specifically, but just believe that listening to our inner self more is probably the better course and to not doubt our sub-conscious ability to help us. What usually happens when you encounter something hazardous all of a sudden? Like a driver cuts you off on the highway. Your mind takes over and you go into auto-pilot. You don't have time to analyze and make a choice, but you know that the best course of action will be taken to avert the danger.

I am not saying to only use this way of choosing, but create more balance in what can be decided with relatively little thought and those that do require more thoughtful planning.

In the realm of creative advertising, we find that in that space of initial thought and choice is where the magic happens. The over-analyzing, statistics gathering, and trending sometimes gets in the way of giving the gift of creative fun advertising to who matters the most....our customers and helping them achieve further success.

Making Wine Marketing Creative and FUN

When it comes to your wine, it is all about taste, branding, and service. The family vineyard and its reputation for quality are very important and it takes concerted effort to perfect.

Scribulz may not be wine experts, but we realize the power of creating memorable moments with our customized coins to help in maintaining and growing a real presence with your customers.

Here are just a few ways we feel that Scribulz coins may be used in assisting with your winery business. Since you are the wine experts, you probably can find many more ways to apply Scribulz to compliment your business further.
    • Provide your Vineyard Coin beside the wine being tasted. If taster likes the wine, they can take a coin with them. This will stay with them well after their visit and provides an easy reference to get back in touch with you.
    • During wine tasting events, have the hostess hand out your customized Vineyard Coin which contains your vineyard branding, website, and contact information.
    • Include your customized Vineyard Coin with every purchase and place in the bag. This is a fun and memorable way to say thank you for your business and remember us for all your wine needs.
    • Create different Vineyard Coin designs for each wine being produced.
    • Provide specials via the Vineyard Coins for your customers to save when purchasing specific wines or "by the case"
Let us know if we can be of assistance to brainstorm further and create a memorable experience for your customers.

Finding that Advertising Solution that fits...

When considering advertising solutions, ensure that you maintain flexibility.

Here are a few items to consider when looking for something new....
    • It is important to take it for a test drive before committing to a longer term.
    • Find a solution that will allow you to scale from a minimal investment to larger audiences as your company grows.
    • Choose a solution that can be modified along the way to keep up with changes to your customer's demands.
    • Trust and confidence in the advertising company is key to allowing ideas to flourish. This does not happen overnight, but you should be on the same wave length initially.
    • Don't expect huge results overnight, but look for small indications that you are on the right track like customer reactions, curiosity, ease of adoptability, and integration into your different marketing goals.
Sometimes it is a tall order to find a solution that fits like a glove, but whats important is that any solution will allow you to continue to retain and grow your clientele and that the solution does not become an anchor to your growing success.

Let us know if you have any further questions and how Scribulz coins may fit into your business lifestyle.

Top 5 Places that Help Gain Creative Thought

When you are striving for some new ideas and creativity, get in the RV and check out these places to recharge:

    3) Las Vegas, NV

    4) Jackson Hole, WY

    5) New York, NY

Five ways to interact with your customers in 2010

Bring in 2010 with some different ways to engage and interact with your customers. We all have that creativity side to us that is just screaming to get out. Put that urge to good use and focus your creative energy to benefit your clientele through honest and caring service.

Here are just 5 ways to get your thoughts flowing, but I am sure you can add many more to this :)
    1.  Research your clients and find something that they personally like. It could be a favorite food, movie, or color. Then use this in your next conversation with them. Take a vested interest in them and they will do the same.
    2. Find a new creative way to use your products or services. This will offer a refreshing new approach for your current customers and may even open up a new type of clientele for you to service.
    3. Invest some time into communicating with current and future customers in a new way. The phone call should not be the only way to interact. Try social networking (Facebook/Twitter/Blogging/..). There are plenty of "get started" online resources to help. Be yourself when communicating, but keep a professional boundary when representing your company or image. Everyone is human, but your customers might not want to hear about who won UFC108 or what you ate for breakfast.
    4. Don't be afraid to offer discounts, but do it in a creative way. Try running specials that are fun, raise curiosity, or just plain do not make sense. For example, with every purchase over $50 receive a pack of hot chocolate, a hug, and $5 off your next visit. Lowering your business guard to be more human will show customers a more well-rounded hip company that they may want to deal with.
    5. Run a contest. Make it fun, like a coloring, poetry, or joke contests. Having different outlets for your customer to interact with you without buying something is a great way to build trust and a relationship.
Whatever you may think, people only buy when they want to, not when you want them to. So have fun and be there for them in a memorable way. It may be the difference between a quick sell and a long-term relationship.

Girl Scout Troop gets Creative with Scribulz Coins!

People keep coming up with creative ways to use Scribulz coins and here is another great example.
We ran a Sammy Scribulz contest a few months ago and Julie from California won. She came up with the idea of using her Girl Scout Troops artwork. Each girl submitted their own drawings and we customized the coins for each of them.

This is a great way to show off their creativity and even trade with fellow Girl Scouts.
    Great idea Julie!!

In Memory of Timothy Brenton (Seattle Police Officer)

Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton was murdered in his parked patrol car on Halloween night. Officer Brenton was a field training officer and had rookie Britt Sweeney riding with him. Sweeney ducked during the initial hail of bullets, called for back-up and returned fire. Sweeney was wounded in her back and is recovering. She acted with great bravery and let her training take over.
Officer Brenton (39 years old) leaves behind his wife and two children ages 8 and 11. Brenton’s father and uncle are retired Seattle Police Officers.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Brenton family and want to thank all his fellow officers that participated in this mornings sobering funeral precession.
